Digitization of archival documents of refugees and displaced persons in Armenia
Duration: January – February 2023,
Location: Yerevan

The project aims to ensure the accessibility of archival documents and provide fast and quality information service for beneficial/interest groups, state and local self-government bodies, and organizations. Due to the absence and/or the lack of a number of cases in the electronic database of the Migration Service, a great number of cases of persons displaced from Azerbaijan remain non-digital making it more difficult to retrieve these documents faster and easier.
Within the frame of the project, the documents of people displaced from Azerbaijan in 1988-1992 that are preserved in the archive of the Migration Service are digitized and uploaded to the electronic database.
The project will give the opportunity to:
effectively and efficiently search, find, and provide the required information to the beneficiary, guaranteeing the accuracy of the information;
ensure the original documents from the risk of being damaged and worn due to continuously use;
effectively and promptly cooperate with other state departments and local self-government bodies that, within the framework of various procedures, apply for obtaining information about a person;
assure database availability using cutting-edge technical solutions;
ensure the possibility of delivering the documents of families displaced from Azerbaijan in 1988-1992 to the National Archives;
increase the quality and efficiency of the database of the Migration Service.

Scanning of the documents will also increase the level of confidentiality of information while working with data.
