The Governor of armavir province of the RA Edward Hovhannisyan called a coordination meeting in the Office with the Mayor of Metsamor town, the Ministry of Labour and Social Aggairs, the relevant staff of the Armavir territorial administration, Mission Armenia, UNHCR Armenia and local and international organizations and other engaged partners. The meeting aimed to discuss the issues of the families in a refugee-like situation from Nargorno-Karabakh living in the host communities of Armavir.
During his introduction on the situation of the displaced families, their current number and location in the province, as well as on the priority social and economic needs faced by the displaced, the Governor of Armavir advised the partners to apply a constructive approach and to consolidate their efforts to assume practical steps in the transition from shorter-term to longer-term solutions for the displaced families.
With presentations on the accomplishments and the ongoing multi-faceted projects and activities and through analysis of their positive impact on the displaced families, the participants highlighted the importance of a thorough needs assessment – to be carried out in the shortest period of time – with the focus on the capacities and the skills of the displaced families in order to ensure more targeted and comprehensive assistance projects for the displaced.
Concluding the event, the Governor suggested the partners develop an action plan, with the consent and agreement of all parties, in order to ensure more coordinated, accountable, and responsive actions essential to address the displaced families’ issues in an effective and efficient way.
