The Last Seminar on COI and Certificate Award Ceremony at YSU

On March 14 2023, the last seminar on the country of origin of refugees was held in the Courtroom of the Faculty of Law of YSU within the framework of the project “COI Research Internship project to Improve the asylum systems in Armenia”.

Armen Ghazaryan, head of the Migration and Citizenship Service (MCS) of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs, presented the new migration trends and processes. The participants had the opportunity to ask Mr. Ghazaryan the questions they were concerned about. The students were also presented with the available job opportunities of MCS. It was planned also to organize visit to the MCS for students.

The certificates award ceremony followed the lecture. YSU Law Faculty Deputy Dean for International Relations Anna Margaryan, YSU Oriental Studies Faculty Dean Ruben Melkonyan, Head of the Arabic Studies Department Hayk Kocharyan and lecturers who held seminars within the Project, attended the ceremony. Mrs. Margaryan and Mr. Melkonyan in their opening speeches mentioned the importance of this cooperation, emphasizing important role of students with competitive knowledge, not only in human rights’ field, but also other relevant fields.

Representatives of the US Embassy in Armenia also joined the event. In her opening speech, Public Relations Officer Jennifer McAndrew spoke about the importance of COI in improving the asylum process in Armenia, emphasizing the cooperation with “Mission Armenia”.

Alla Harutyunyan, vice-president of “Mission Armenia” congratulated the students, emphasizing the importance of the knowledge gained and the protection of the rights of refugees seeking asylum.

“COI Research Internship project to Improve the asylum systems in Armenia ” project is funded by the US Embassy in Armenia.
