Since 1991 International Day of Older Persons is being
celebrated on 1st October each year througout the world and in Armenia as well.
The purpose of celebrating the day of aged people is to draw the attention of
the society on protection of elderly people, particularly vulnerable aged
citizens? and lonely pensioners? interests and coverage of their issues, on
provision of material, psycho-social, everyday, healthcare and other type of
assistance to them.
Although support to these vulnerable groups is not intended
to be provided for one day only, today is a day when issues of aged people are
officially named, enabling us to be grateful of the senior generation for their
substantial investment into the work of society development.
In this sense ?Mission Armenia? NGO, being a public structure for upholding and
dealing with the issues of aged, traditionally celebrates this holiday
cooperating with RA authorities, donor organizations, other interested
structures and sufficient layers of civil society.
Over the years various events have been organized for the
aged and lone beneficiaries in RA marzes and in 50 infrastructures of Mission
Armenia that act in Yerevan; these events were devoted to the international day
of aged people. This year is not an exception and starting from today in one
month period various cultural and entertainment events devoted to this holiday
will be launched in different cities, including capital?s different communities.
